The car starter is a component that converts the electrical energy from the battery into mechanical energy to drive the engine flywheel to rotate. It consists of a DC motor, a transmission mechanism, and an electromagnetic control switch. Its voltage is available in two types: 12V and 24V. The gear head design includes both with covers and without covers. The lifespan of domestic models is approximately 6 years or 100,000 kilometers, while for imported joint venture models, it can reach 10 years or 200,000 kilometers [4]. During operation, the driving gear of the transmission mechanism engages with the flywheel gear ring to transfer torque, and after the engine starts, it automatically disengages. The electromagnetic switch controls the circuit's on and off.

This component replaces the traditional manual starting method and has become the mainstream configuration. Depending on the differences in the transmission mechanism, it is classified into types such as forced engagement, armature movement, and reduction. The electromagnetic control type is remotely controlled through relays and is widely used in cars, generators, and heavy machinery. During maintenance, it is necessary to check the wear of the gears, the contacts of the electromagnetic switch, and the state of the magnetic coil. Pay special attention to the impact sounds caused by abnormal engagement of the driving gear and the flywheel gear ring. The mature domestic manufacturing process enables it to have a high cost-performance ratio.

Car starter motor

As is well known, the starting of an engine requires external force. The car starter motor plays this role. Generally speaking, the starter motor uses three components to complete the entire starting process. The DC motor draws current from the battery and causes the driving gear of the starter motor to generate mechanical motion; the transmission mechanism engages the driving gear with the flywheel ring gear and can automatically disengage after the engine starts; the on-off of the starter motor circuit is controlled by an electromagnetic switch.

Among them, the motor is the main component inside the starter motor.

Its working principle is the energy conversion process based on Ampere's Law that we encountered in junior high school physics, namely the force acting on an electrified conductor in a magnetic field. An electric motor consists of necessary components such as the armature, commutator, magnetic poles, brushes, bearings, and casing.

Before an engine can operate on its own power, it must be rotated by an external force. The process by which an engine transitions from a stationary state to being able to operate independently with the help of an external force is called the engine's starting. Common starting methods for engines include manual starting, auxiliary gasoline engine starting, and electric starting. Manual starting is done by pulling a rope or by hand, which is simple but inconvenient and requires a lot of effort. It is only suitable for some small-power engines and is retained as a backup method in some cars; auxiliary gasoline engine starting is mainly used on large-power diesel engines; the electric starting method is easy to operate, starts quickly, has the ability to repeat starting, and can be remotely controlled. Therefore, it is widely used in modern cars.
