O-type sealing ring An O-type sealing ring (O-rings) is a rubber sealing ring with a circular cross-section. Due to its circular shape, it is called an O-type rubber sealing ring and is also known as an O-ring. It first appeared in the middle of the 19th century, when it was used as a sealing component for steam engine cylinders.
