For cars without synchronizers in the early days, one had to engage the gear based on intuition. Sometimes, when the gear could not be engaged, one needed to step on the accelerator several times. Driving a car back then was really tiring. This is the function of the synchronizer. With the development of automobiles to this day, the technology has become quite mature. The locking function of the locking ring 9 in conjunction with the coupling sleeve is caused by the aforementioned frictional torque M1. Since the effect of this frictional torque is related to the rotational inertia of both the locking ring 9 (and the connected coupling sleeve 8, spline hub 7, transmission output shaft, and the entire vehicle, etc.) and the gear 1 (and the connected clutch driven part and internal gears of the transmission), it is called an "inertial type" synchronizer.
