The working principle of the oil pressure sensor is that it is usually installed on the main oil passage of the engine. The pressure-sensitive element inside can sense the changes in oil pressure. The output electrical signal is processed and then reflects the magnitude of the oil pressure in the form of voltage or resistance value.

The specific working process is as follows: When the engine is running, the pressure measurement device detects the oil pressure and converts the pressure signal into an electrical signal, which is then sent to the signal processing circuit. After voltage amplification and current amplification, the amplified pressure signal is connected to the oil pressure indicator through the signal line. The ratio of the currents passing through the two coils inside the indicator changes randomly with the oil pressure variation, thereby indicating the magnitude of the engine oil pressure. At the same time, the amplified pressure signal is compared with the alarm voltage set in the alarm circuit. When it is lower than the alarm voltage, the alarm circuit outputs an alarm signal and lights up the alarm lamp through the alarm line to alert the driver.
There are various types of oil pressure sensors. For instance, semiconductor piezoresistive sensors utilize the piezoresistive effect of semiconductors and have a relatively high strain sensitivity coefficient, but they have poor resistance to oil contamination and particle influence; traditional elastic strain sensors have a wide measurement range, high accuracy, and good stability, but the amplitude of the output signal changes relatively little and the temperature compensation is rather difficult; thick film pressure sensors are developed based on the piezoresistive effect of thick film resistors and avoid the drawback of the easy aging of the pasting process; ceramic piezoresistive sensors are made of ceramic materials and have advantages such as high elasticity, corrosion resistance, wear resistance, and vibration resistance, but they are more costly.
