The function of the flywheel housing is to connect the engine and the transmission, and it has the functions of connecting to the engine block, protection and support.

 

The flywheel housing is installed between the engine and the transmission, with an external connection to the crankcase, starter motor and oil pan, and an internal installation of the flywheel assembly, serving to connect the engine block, protect and support. The main function of the flywheel housing is to achieve an effective connection between the engine and the transmission. Through its variations, the same type of engine can be installed in different types of vehicles to meet market demands. The connection surfaces between the same series of flywheel housings and the engine are basically the same, while the connection surfaces with the clutch are different, but the function holes are the same. The flywheel housing is generally in a basin shape, with the structural characteristic of large size, with a maximum diameter of 600mm and a height of nearly 300mm. The flywheel housing is usually made of gray cast iron casting blanks. Its structural characteristic is uneven wall thickness. Generally, the wall thickness is 6-8mm, with the thinnest part being only 5mm, but the maximum wall thickness is 40mm. The two surfaces for connecting the engine and the clutch have a large area, and during die-casting, they are prone to deformation, which is difficult to control. Therefore, the connection holes for the two surfaces must be machined. To ensure the good stability and sealing performance of the flywheel housing during operation, there are detailed technical requirements for its important surfaces and holes. The flywheel includes the housing, support plate and bolts. The housing has screw holes on both sides, and the support plate has bolt holes. The bolts pass through the bolt holes on the support plate and are screwed into the screw holes on the housing, connecting the support plate to the housing. The number and position of the threaded holes on the support plate are determined according to the matching installation requirements of the engine. The purpose of this utility model is to provide a flywheel housing that can meet the installation requirements by replacing the support plate. The flywheel housing can be universal, reducing molds and tooling, increasing batch production, reducing the number of parts, saving production management, financial management and storage management costs, and reducing costs. The function of the flywheel housing is to bear weight, position the engine and transmission, and install components. Although the wear is not significant, its damage and deformation have a significant impact on the engine. Since the flywheel housing bears weight and external forces, cracks and deformations are inevitable. After the flywheel housing deforms, its parallelism and the center of the bearing holes lose their original accuracy, that is, the bearing holes of the flywheel housing cannot be concentric with the center of the crankshaft and the transmission, causing deviation of the center of the engine and the transmission. This will affect the transmission of power. The wear of the driven components will also intensify, resulting in abnormal transmission noise. The misalignment of the two planes of the flywheel housing will also cause unnecessary wear to the driven components, such as clutch plates, transmission drive bridge, bearings, etc. To make the centerline of the engine crankshaft coincide with the centerline of the transmission shaft, the flywheel housing is equipped with a plane and center positioning device. For example, the planes of the cylinder block and the flywheel housing, the drive cover of the transmission, and the bearing holes of the flywheel housing all ensure parallelism and concentricity. Therefore, during warranty, in addition to paying attention to the concentricity of the crankshaft and the flywheel, it is particularly necessary to strictly adjust and inspect several reference planes or holes of the flywheel housing. Although the flywheel housing is single in design, the center of the bearing hole and the plane are consistent with the cylinder block. Therefore, the flywheel housing is an indispensable basic component in warranty. The flywheel housing is generally used for the flywheel assembly of automotive electronic control diesel engines.
