When applying the service brakes
1. Compressed air enters cavity a through port 11, acting on diaphragm b and compressing spring c. Push rod d is pushed out, and the pressure acting on the diaphragm is transmitted through connecting rod to the adjusting arm, generating a braking torque on the wheels.
2. During parking and emergency braking: The hand control valve allows the compressed air in cavity E to be completely or partially released through port 12. The energy storage spring g also releases energy completely or partially. Through diaphragm f, push rod kd and braking adjusting arm, it acts on the wheel brakes.
3. During normal driving: Place the release bolt h in hole A and lock it with a nut. When mechanical release is needed, place the release bolt in tray i, rotate 90 degrees, and then unscrew the release bolt to achieve manual removal of the brakes without compressed air.
The brake chamber, also known as the brake booster, functions to convert the pressure of compressed air into mechanical force that causes the brake camshaft to rotate, thereby achieving the braking action.
The brake chamber is of the clamp-seated diaphragm type. The front and rear brake chambers differ in size, but their structures are basically the same, as shown in the figure. It consists of an intake port, a cover, a diaphragm, a support plate, a return spring, a housing, a push rod, a connecting fork, a clamp, and bolts, etc.

The brake chamber housing and cover are made of steel plates by stamping. They are connected together by clamps and bolts to form the entire housing. Between them, a cloth-covered rubber diaphragm is installed, which divides the entire housing into two completely isolated air chambers. The air chamber between the diaphragm and the cover communicates with the dual-chamber brake valve, while the air chamber between the diaphragm and the housing is always in communication with the atmosphere. In the free state, the diaphragm is tightly against the cover plate, and the other side is in contact with the disc on the push rod. Between the disc and the inner end face of the housing, there is a return spring, and the other end of the push rod is equipped with a connecting fork to connect the brake adjustment arm. The entire brake chamber is fixed to a special bracket by bolts.
